Fighting Silence (On the Ropes #1) by Author Aly Martinez is the first book of her new On the Ropes series featuring three brothers. This has to be hands down one of my favorite friends to lovers romance ever. I am embarrassed to say that although I have all of this author’s books on my Kindle, THIS is my first read by her and I was completely blown away. If you have not read a book by this author, please, I implore you to grab her books immediately!
To be quite honest, I contemplated overnight on what to write or rather how to even begin this review. I was so emotional after reading Fighting Silence that I had to let it all soak in and process first, before I could even begin to put my feelings into words. Needless to say, I was an emotional mess when I finished this book.
Let me start with some words about Author Aly Martinez. Wow, wow, wow, this girl can write and I don’t mean write in the literal sense, ok, yes I do but that’s not my point, lol. The storyline, the writing, the characters, the underlying “message” of this book was absolutely phenomenal. I am saying for me, this book was a literary masterpiece. I was so engrossed from the get-go that I could not read fast enough as this story progressed. I loved every aspect of the story, it flowed flawlessly, seamlessly, and perfectly. I hung on every word, every sentence, every detail surrounding these characters. I didn’t feel like I was just reading a book, oh no, I felt like I was “living” this story right alongside all of them. There are no words strong enough to even begin to convey the emotions I went through while reading about Till and Eliza. I was an emotional mess, my heart was so heavy at one point that it actually hurt. I had to put the book down at one point because as much as I needed to continue on their journey, I was also afraid of what was going to happen with them.
Till, oh Till, this boy who grew into a man “overnight”, holy wowza. I loved him from the start but I am not going to lie, his insecurities “scared” me, I was always on edge wondering what his next move would be, lol. His childhood, omg, it was gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, it gutted me to my core. I was amazed at how much one boy had to go through at such a young age but still be able to hold the amount of love that he had within himself. His interactions and inner thoughts about Eliza, priceless, beautiful and oh so swoon-worthy! He stole my heart and I never wanted it back from him either:) The love he had for Eliza and his brothers was of epic proportions!
Eliza, this girl was amazing, caring, kind, loving, compassionate……yep, girl crush going on here! Eliza was everything and more that I had hoped for in my female lead. I was in love with her from the start and my love just continued to grow more and more with each passing page. There was not one thing I didn’t love about this girl. Eliza was the rock of this beautifully damaged group of brothers. She was one of the most unselfish heroines that I have had the pleasure to read about and was it so refreshing. She also had a heartbreaking childhood herself and yet she had more love in her heart than one could even imagine. She never once batted an eye or wasted a single second in knowing how to soothe Till. She was loyal, compassionate, genuine, real and had the love of a lioness. Her fierce and unconditional love for Till and his brothers was so touching and moving, I have chills even thinking about it.
The journey that Author Aly Martinez took me on is one of heartbreak, betrayal, it’s of the feeling of hopelessness and learning to overcome life’s bitter disappointments and yet it also showed me that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Eliza was that light at the end of Till’s very dark tunnel and the road may have been bumpy at times but the ride was so worth it!My heart had burst into a million pieces but by the end, Author Aly Martinez slowly and meticulously put each piece back together again making it even stronger than before. The ending was perfect and yet held so many questions left unanswered when it came to Till’s two brothers. I cannot imagine what is in store with Flint and Quarry’ stories but you can bet I will be reading both of those books with tissues in hand.
