I received the book Free Booze Tonight by Chuck Freadhoff in exchange for an honest review. At points in this book I felt like it dragged on but there were other points where it was interesting and the story line took off and you wanted to find out what happened next. We meet Joey who is a bartender. He is great at getting in trouble and not great at lying. He is lucky because he knows a lot of people who will give him favors. He crosses a mob boss and is given an ultimatum. He either makes his daughter Delilah a singing star or meets a wood chipper. So because he wants to live he decides to make Delilah a star. Delilah is a cross between Janis Joplin and Billie Holiday with her voice. So she really definitely has talent. She just needs a good band to back her up. She is super nervous and irritated at her dad but is willing to try. His first attempt ends badly and he flees thinking he is surely going to meet his maker when the mob boss’ goons show up and escort him to Vegas. While there, things get even more crazy. Think a dwarf, an elephant, a gangster who is aqua phobic, as well as bikers and musicians and a steam rolling roller-derby Queen. Some parts are pretty out there and you can help but laugh because seriously. A dwarf hit man! Ha-ha! Anyway in Vegas Delilah has run away and they are looking for her so Joey doesn’t go in the wood chipper. Of course doing this requires more Shenanigans etc. They find her and head back so she can sing at her show. Joey pulls favors like crazy and gets her an awesome band and packs the bar. It goes so well and Delilah heads on her way to being a star. This was an ok book. I think the author has a lot of promise and this was definitely a solid effort. I would consider reading other Books by this author.
