Hidden Heat by Carla Swafford was surprisingly really good. I’m usually hesitant when reading MC books because they tend to be on the sweet side. However, this novel has a great balance between the two. You have some of the harsh reality of MC life as well as the cuteness of the romance. The story was very captivating. It held my attention from the very beginning until the very end. At no time was there any low points where the story got slow. The story flowed perfectly, which is important when writing a suspense novel. The two main characters were great. Cassidy, the main female lead, was sassy, saucy and strong. The combination makes a great woman for an MC book. She didn’t take anything from those big burly and scary men. Thorn, the main male lead, was strong and smart rolled in with a whole lot of man. He was what a man, in my opinion should be, which is a perfect protector, a perfect lover, and a perfect Alpha. Both of the characters has their own set of conflictions. Him with his “real” life and hers with her brother. But the back stories as well as the MC story did not over power the romance in this novel. As in all MC books there is a lot of descriptive violence, but nothing too gory. The sex that was in the book was detailed enough to provide enough for your imagination to take over. The sex scenes were really good and thought through. There were multiple twists and turns throughout the story that you wouldn’t expect. The ending was both great and disappointing at the same time. It was a great ending to the plot and described how things turned out well. Although, I truly wished that the ending was drawn out just a little bit longer and explained a bit more to wrap up the end. It almost seemed a little bit rushed but nevertheless it was good. The last chapter or the epilogue was decent and segued well into the next book in the series
