Dirty Sexy Saint (Dirty Sexy #1) by Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde is the first book in a dirty and oh, so very sexy new series by two terrific authors Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde. I have read books by both of these authors independently in the past and have really enjoyed them and together, they are a going to be a force to be reckoned with.
Dirty Sexy Saint is a book about the oldest of three brothers, Clay. I loved Clay’s character, he was sexy, dirty, caring, kind, tough yet gentle and so full of love that even he wasn’t aware of. He along with his brothers Mason and Levi had a truly heartbreaking and disturbing back story, it literally broke my heart into a million pieces. The fact that this man turned his life around completely and took charge of his younger brothers through the years spoke in volumes of his character. It was just so sad that he was the only one who didn’t see the very best of him and that part of the story had me wanting so badly to reach through my Kindle and give him the biggest and warmest hug.
Samantha came into Clay’s life quite unexpectedly and it was great to see him thrown completely off guard. He never expected her and as much as he fought internally with himself for taking what he wanted, when he finally gave in to his cravings, it was pure bliss for the both of them! Samantha came from a privileged lifestyle and I was very curious to see where the authors would take her character. I was so happy and surprised to see that they handled it almost perfectly for me. OK, so you may ask, why “almost” well for me, as much as I loved her, I also didn’t love that she was overly pursuing Clay at the start. I also did love that as fast as it seemed it was going at the start of the story, Clay put on the brakes and that was a relief because I do love a slow, sexually charged build not a “quick-start”. I do love a strong female character but I still do want the male lead to do the majority of the chasing for the most part. I guess, she was a bit too forward for me at the start of the book BUT as the story progressed, I loved seeing them grow on equal playing grounds!
Clay and Samantha’s story was a quick read and I loved it. There was a lot of “meat and potatoes” provided for the reader and yet not filled with lots of insignificant fluff. We got great background information on both of these characters throughout the book in which I love in my stories because it helps me to emotionally connect and this book had me connected completely with both Clay and Samantha. The writing was very good, flowed seamlessly and although there was a really good story there, it was also filled with sensual and erotic sex scenes that had me squirming in my seat throughout.
Ok, so now you may wonder, well why not 5 Stars, for me it was lack of angst and drama. The story flowed great yes, but a little too great. I would have loved for a bit more drama and some angst to give it just a little more of an edge to it. There were a few instances that I could have seen the “drama” inserted and if done in the right way, at the right time and with the right amount this would have easily been a 5 star read for me! Don’t get me wrong, I truly hate unnecessary drama just for the sake of adding it but this story did have the right settings for just a tad bit to have made it more edgy but the authors kept it pretty angst-free. Please don’t misunderstand me either, this book definitely wasn’t “fluffy” but it did need just a bit more of added “excitement” for me. With that being said, I cannot wait to read about Mason and Levi. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book in this series and I look forward to reading it:)
Authors Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde should be very proud of this wonderful debut of their new series, it really was a great read. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves a fast, sexy romance with great likable characters as well as promising secondary characters who give you just enough in this book to have you craving for their stories as well.
