Tutus and Cowboy Boots by Casey Peeler is definitely a five star book! Cadence Lewis grew up in New York and is used to getting everything she wanted and everyone doing things her way. She’s a competitive dancer who wants nothing else but to be the best. She has the perfect life and everything planned out to go to the best dance school in the country, but a twist of events leads Cadence and her mom moving to a small North Carolina town to live with her grandma. Arriving at her Gran’s farm, Cadence meets Barrick. Barrick Carpenter is a down to earth, true southern gentleman. He helps Gran out on the farm everyday and genuinely loves to help her. Barrick and Cadence clash when she’s forced to help out on the farm, and she does so with a chip on her shoulder and the “I’m better than everyone else” mentality. Barrick struggles with trying to help Cadence. He wants to learn more about her and help her when she’s sad and angry, which seems to be a lot of the time. He wants to be there for her; he only wishes she would give him the chance. Cadence can’t seem to keep a positive, respectful attitude, except when she meets Jade. Jade becomes one of her closest friends and helps Cadence shape into a better, nicer person. Cadence also begins to get along better with Barrick, and a special night out keeps Cadence thinking “I’m not one to get random acts of kindness from people, but I have to say Barrick has blown my mind today.” As she becomes closer with both Jade and Barrick, will Cadence be able to start a new life for herself with an optimistic attitude? Will sparks fly between Cadence and Barrick as they work with each other every day? Find out in Tutus and Cowboy Boots!
I absolutely loved this book! The writing is excellent and reading from switching perspectives of Cadence and Barrick makes you fall in love with the characters. I can’t wait for Tutus and Cowboy Boots Part 2 coming out in April 2016!
