“Death did not play favorites or play fair” Justin knew that better than anyone. Ten years ago death took his father with a heart attack, then two years ago death took his older brother with a IUD. It was more than his mother could handle. She was broken, depressed, life had no meaning for her anymore. Justin tried to take care of her the best he could. He had to move back in with her since she no longer could function to work. So their only income was from Justin working on a farm. He was at his breaking point and needed some time for himself to recoup. He asked his boss for a couple of days and Rohn his boss offered is he would drive from Oklahoma to Arizona to pick up his bride to be and her mother’s belongings. He offered to pay him for the day plus expenses. Justin jumped at the chance. Phoenix is a first grade teacher in California. She is going to Aruba with her friend Kim, but she cannot find her birth certificate. Kim informs her she can send for another copy. When it comes she is shocked to find its not like the one she had. It’s the original of her birth with the birth mothers name on it but blank where the fathers name. She calls her friend Kim and explains what came. Phoenix has . She has never been curious about her birth mother because it was a closed adoption. So Phoenix starts a search and finds a Bonnie listed in Arizona. She decides to make the trip now that she was curious to meet the woman that gave birth to her. Once on the road her car starts smoking so she pulls off at a bar to see if she can find someone to fix her car. Justin has driven straight thru so he decides to stop to eat and use the restroom. He notices Phoenix has car trouble but he has his own troubles. So the bartender gave her the name of a shop that is cheap. Phoenix decides to risk it and go on to Bonnie’s house. She no more is out of her car when Justin pulls in the driveway. She recognizes Justin from the bar she was just at. He wonders why this girl is following him. As they start a dance asking questions and dodging answers. Justin is tired of playing this game, he just wants to load up the trailer and be ready to leave. She wants to know why he is there and he informs her he has a key to the house. He offers to call Bonnie for her but she freaks out. So Phoenix decides to leave and come back tomorrow hoping Bonnie will be there. The next day she is outside when he finishes loading up. They go back and forth and end up making a deal. She will drive her car and drop it off at the shop and ride with Justin to Oklahoma to Texas with him to meet Bonnie. Will Phoenix find what she is looking for? Will Justin be able to move on with his life and be happy? This is a great story, the author did a fantastic job with the story line. I urge you to take a chance on it and read.
