Wild Lavender, The Aurelian Guard, written by Nicole Elizabeth Kelleher. The people of Stolweg feared Lord Roger and He wanted it that way. He had a plan and had taken great risks to see it thru. He did not mind the wait for his plan to unfold, even if he had to wait several years. He was evil and got great satisfaction from his people knowing their place. After his marriage to Anna, Lord Roger was gone weeks at a time and Anna got great joy from his departure. She bonded with the people, gaining their trust and loyalty even helping them with their aliments. The people loved her very much and feared for her safety. Anna came from Chevring a place known for the war horses in the kingdom of Aurelia. Her family’s fortune had dwindled over the years, so her father brokered and alliance with Lord Roger of Stolweg. Unfortunately, the price was his oldest daughter Anna and the secrets to her family’s once great power. Anna found out just how cruel her now husband Lord Roger was. Their wedding night he was not gentle with her and Anna was delusional in thinking there could be a comfort to each other. Lord Roger was nothing like Anna thought he was or her marriage for that matter. This experience left her heartbroken and bitter. But she would not falter, she had to be strong for herself and her people. Anna often thought of Larkin the man she met when she was just 16. Larkin was a guard of Aurelia whose presence Irks Lord Roger. Larkin has been summoned by the King to investigate Roger for Treason against the Realm. Larkin often thought of Anna, but during the 2 years he could not find her. He did not know she went by Aubrianne. Anna was also fearful for family, Lord Roger made threats she knew he would follow thru on. If not careful Lord Roger could ignite a war within the realm. Anna may be the only person who can stop the battle that will tear the kingdom apart. I’m not one for Historical Romances, but I have to say after reading this book, I am a fan. I was very impressed with the story line and the characters. The author made it come alive and made you feel while you were reading. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. If you are like me and don’t really read this genre I urge you to read this book. You will fall in love with it.
